How to bring back Google Maps in iOS 6

One of the newest changes in iOS 6 is the new Maps application, which now isn’t powered by Google Maps, but by Apple’s own Maps software…

Apple Maps… A complete failure

As you know, the new Apple Maps application is a complete failure. The Flyover and turn by turn navigation features are great but they cannot be relied on… Ever. Maps 2.0 also lacks Google Street View, something that we miss very much. Until Google releases an app for iOS with their own maps, we are stuck using Maps 2.0. Today, I’ll tell you how to bring back Google Maps on iOS 6.

The first solution for all you iOS 6 users out there is to install Maps+ on your iOS device. This gives you all the Google Maps features for free. Some users say that it is even better than Google Maps on iOS 5. You can download the app here. It’s also a universal app which works on the iPad as well.

Maps+ “is even better than Google maps on iOS 5”

For basic users, the features available in Maps+ free will be more than adequate. But those of you who bookmark locations and routes regularly will have to pay a reasonable one time fee of $2.99 via an in-app purchase. If you don’t want to purchase the in app purchase for $ 3, then you can try the other method described below.

If the first method doesn’t work for you, you access Google Maps via Safari or any other mobile browser for your iOS device. Go to this website and wait for the page to load. After loading the page, Google asks you if you want to add a bookmark on the home screen. The quickest way seemed by bookmarking the site onto your home screen and accessing it from there. This doesn’t feel like iOS 5, but hey, still it works. Google Maps on Safari wasn’t that smooth in the movements but it was perfectly usable.

In this method, one of the disadvantages is that you cannot get Google Street View. Well, for that you can download one of the free Street View apps on the App Store. Live Street View worked for me. It’s a free and universal app, and for 99 cents you can remove the ads.

For now, these are the only 2 solutions I can give to you regarding Maps on iOS 6. What do you think about this? Does it work for you or do you use Apple Maps for directions? Comment below to tell us, and also remember to like our Facebook Page for all the latest updates.
