Make sure to follow the following steps before jailbreaking:

  • Check if your iOS Device is Compatible With iOS 6

First and foremost, check if your device is compatible with iOS 6. You don’t want to get ready for the jailbreak only to found out your device isn’t compatible with iOS 6. iOS 6 only supports the following devices. Check if your device is compatible.

Supported Devices

  •  iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS
  •  iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2, iPad mini
  •  iPod touch 5G, iPod Touch 4G
  •  Apple TV 2 (Note: Apple TV 3 cannot be jailbroken with evasi0n)

For more clarity, here is the list of devices that are NOT supported by iOS 6:

Non-Supported Devices

  •  iPhone 2G
  •  iPhone 3G
  •  iPod Touch 1G
  •  iPod touch 2G
  •  iPod touch 3G
  •  iPad 1
  •  Apple TV 3
  • Backup Your iOS Device

Remember to backup your iOS device before updating to iOS 6. This way, if anything goes wrong during the jailbreaking process, you’ll have a complete backup of all your songs, movies and apps etc. You can backup your device either to iCloud, or to your computer. Also, if you are coming from iOS 5.1.1, make sure to check if all the tweaks and apps you’ve installed via Cydia are compatible with iOS 6. You can also backup your cydia packages with OpenBackup. You can check the compatibility by going through the tweaks that you use in the Cydia app, because, you will be alerted by some sort of a warning if it’s an incompatible tweak. You should decide whether or not to go for the upgrade based on your personal likings while analyzing if the iOS 6’s new features are also worth it.

  • Update to iOS 6.1

Make sure that you’re iOS device is running iOS 6.1 and not any previous version of iOS. While Evasi0n will be compatible with all devices running iOS 6.0 – 6.1, its better to remain on the latest version to avoid any major problems. You can update your iOS 6 device either by iTunes or by downloading the firmware for your iOS device from the following links:

Apple TV links (software version 5.2.)

At this point, you will need to decide whether you want to go for a clean jailbreak install or do the jailbreak while keeping all your apps and settings intact. While a fresh jailbreak will be quicker, the latter would take a longer time to complete, but you will not be required to restore any backups if the process goes smooth. Head over to the official dev team’s Web site to get to know more by going through the FAQs and other updates.
